Tragedy struck on Long Island when a 17-year-old boy, Connor Kasin, died after experiencing a medical episode during a varsity ice hockey game on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage.

Connor, a Massapequa High School student, reportedly lost consciousness on the ice during the game’s intermission. Spectators and staff at the skating center immediately began CPR until first responders arrived to take over. Despite their efforts, Connor was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital.

The Massapequa Public Schools Superintendent, William Brennan, expressed deep sorrow in a statement, describing Connor as a cherished student who was “known for his kindness, positivity, enthusiasm, and big smile.” He added, “Connor brought light and joy to everyone around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by the entire community.” Counseling services are being provided to support grieving students and staff.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the medical episode but have yet to determine a definitive cause.
